Every once in a while, I will hear people refer to my kids as having “pelo chino”.  Chinese hair?  One is blonde.  One is brunette.  Both are naturally curly.  None of these are really characteristics of Chinese hair.

Apparently it is a term used primarily in Mexico to describe curly hair, and probably is not actually related to the word chino meaning Chinese (other Latin american countries also use chino for orange, go figure).

The word I’ve been using for curly is rizado/rizada because that’s the word I look for on shampoo bottles for the girls.
